Malcolm D. McLeod was Director of the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, 1990 to 1999; Professor of African Studies from 1994 to 2006; Vice-Principal from 1999 to 2005 and Pro Vice-Principal from 2005 to 2006. He was awarded a CBE in 2006.
