Description: Hadrian’s Villa and Its Legacy
After Hadrian's death the record thins and soon stops. A few brickstamps and imperial portraits may suggest use of the Villa by his successors. The last secure evidence dates from the time of Caracalla (211–217), and at some point thereafter the Villa ceased to be an imperial property. In the fourth century the HA compiler and Aurelius Victor knew of it, presumably from earlier writers.
